Description: The discussion will address key points in risk assessment and overall management of a diverse demographic of patients with special healthcare needs (SHCNs), including oral diagnosis and management employed in cases treated in an outpatient setting. This will include collaborative care practices and review of associated core competencies. In addition, the elements of the special needs patient encounter will be introduced. Cases will be used for discussion and application.
 
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
*Consult professional colleagues for necessary and relevant patient information;
*Integrate oral diagnostic expertise to the coordination of complex patient management;
*Evaluate and plan for management versus referral by using the special needs patient encounter framework.
