The Detroit District Dental Society(DDDS) was established in 1895 to service members of Wayne and Monroe Counties. Dr. Jehan Wakeem is the President of the Detroit District Dental Society. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Detroit District Dental Society.

MDA update on Michigan Supreme Court Ruling on Oct. 2nd Overtune Governor's Emergency Powers

Michigan Supreme Court Overturns Whitmer Emergency Powers - October 2, 2020

On Friday, Oct. 2 the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer lacked the constitutional authority to extend the COVID-19 state of emergency or issue executive orders related to the state of emergency without approval by the Michigan Legislature. The immediate effect is no Executive Order after April 30th is enforceable. What does this mean for dental offices?

There should be no change in the way you practice as a result of this ruling. You and your staff should continue to follow all applicable CDC and OSHA guidelines as well as the ADA Return to Work Interim Guidance Toolkit and the MDA Addendum to the ADA Return to Work Interim Guidance Toolkit. These tools may require ADA/MDA log-in please contact MDA or DDDS office if you need assitance to log-in to reach information. 

We encourage all dental professionals to continue to practice as you have since dental offices reopened in May, and continue to keep your patients and staff safe.
