All dental offices covered by HIPAA must update their HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices by February 16, 2026.

Reminder from the ADA

HIPAA Privacy Update Deadline Approaching Feb. 16, 2026 for Dental Practices

Beginning Feb. 16, dental offices covered by HIPAA must update their HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) to address the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information received from a Part 2 substance abuse use disorder treatment program under new federal requirements.

To assist practices in meeting this deadline, the ADA has:

  • Created a checklist to help dental practices comply with needed changes by the Feb. 16 deadline
  • Revised its Sample Notice of Privacy Practices. The resource is available in English and in Spanish. It is member-only and requires ADA member login credentials to access the PDF file. Members who wish to order updated printed copies of the brochure may do so through ADAstore.org
Visit ADA News for more information about this necessary update.
