Board Vote September 2023 Motions

The Detroit District Board meeting on September 13, 2023 did not have enough people to have quorum to vote on motions. There was an ADA meeting conflict and other dental meetings. We would like to have these motions approved to keep the organization running smoothly and a motion is time sensitive with an event happening on September 29th prior to our next board meeting.

Motion for donation to Michigan Dental Foundation in honor of Karen Burgess.

Motion: To approve $500.00 from our checking account to make a donation to the Michigan Dental Association in honor of Karen Burgess.

Motion made by Sue Carron and seconded by Claudia Menton.

Background information: Karen Burgess passed away this summer and there will be a celebration of life event on the evening of September 29, 2023 that will be attended by members, Karen Burgess's family, and MDA staff. Karen had served the MDA as Executive Director and worked diligently in promoting the mission of the MDA and oral health in the entire state of Michigan. Donations of this kind have been done before in honor of individuals.

Marcy Dwyer checked with the Oakland Dental Society, and they are also discussing $500.00 donation to the MDA Foundation in honor of Karen Burgess.

The conversation at the meeting was supportive of honoring Karen with a donation to the MDA Foundation.

DET2023 (Dental Education Today) on November 2-3, 2023

DET2023

There was board discussion on DET2023, Dental Education Today 2023 with the three hands-on sessions and three national speakers. Registration is very low currently for this event. Currently Jehan, Marvin, Claudia, Asmaa, and Sue are attending. Please share if you plan to attend or not to give us feedback on this event, we are trying to improve our marketing and communication to members to improve registrations. Your feedback will help us with working on this event.
